Forza Motorsport 3

Details we know: updated physics (roll over crashes), cockpit view, shiny new graphics, built in video editor (HD video too), 400+ cars from 50 manufacturers, the return of the livery editor!

New features we don't know enough about: "one button driving and instant rewind", enhanced community features.

Coming this October.

Looked amazing. Seemed like they were aiming for hyper reality rather than gritty GRID style stuff.

I only saw the low def Xbox.com stream of the press conference, but it looked to me like the game was pretty hot stuff in the graphics department.

Seems like a lot of developers have figured out how to get great lighting in their games. In fact everything at the MS press conference looked great in that department.

What I didn't catch at the time when I saw it, but now I'm wondering about, was this the first time one of these realistic racing games features full roll overs in crashes?

So Forza has paint jobs, damage models, rollover crashes, and the almighty cockpit view.

GT5 what? :kerry

Yep.

Car companies were against it for the longest time. Wonder how MS got around it? :scratch

I saw photos over at OA just now, Forza 3 looks amazing. Better than GT5 with crashing, and way more gameplay.

Forza 3 looks amazing and has a full damage model. Looks more impressive than GT5, imo.

Wow, impressive stuff:

Quote

Did I just see the FordGT front/right tire bending in that close up/slowmotion part of the official trailer? WOW if they managed to simulate that. Pretty impressive.

Quote

Yes, our physics team worked very hard on tire flex modeling and it's one of the big new sim features for FM3.

Thanks for noticing! It's very subtle but it makes a big difference.

Best physics, best graphics, best online play...

Some information pulled from the new FM3 website (http://forzamotorspo...ame/default.htm):

Quote

World-Class Cars and Tracks

Featuring the latest and greatest production offerings as well as the world's fastest and most exotic street cars, "Forza Motorsport 3" offers more than 400 fully customizable and tunable cars from over 50 of the world's leading manufacturers. Whether your passion is classic American muscle cars, European roadsters, purpose-built race cars or high-tech Asian imports, "Forza Motorsport 3" puts you in the cockpit of the cars you love. In addition to the return of world-famous tracks from previous "Forza Motorsport" games, including Suzuka, Nürburgring Nordschleife and the Sebring International Raceway, "Forza Motorsport 3" invites you to conquer the corners on more than 100 tracks, including some of the most beautiful road courses in the world. New environments like the gorgeous mountainous Montserrat region in Spain, the rugged Amalfi Coast in Italy and the American Southwest are presented in such majestic detail that you might find yourself pulling over just to take it all in.

Quote

Redefining the Modern Racing Game

"Forza Motorsport's" appreciation of the automobile is due in large part to the team's attention to detail. This is why automotive engineers from manufacturers like Audi and champion race teams like Peugeot as well as experienced computer graphics specialists from across Microsoft have all teamed up with Turn 10 to make "Forza Motorsport 3" the most beautiful and realistic racing game ever made. All 400-plus cars in the game have been built with more than 10 times the amount of polygons as "Forza Motorsport 2." This includes painstakingly researched cockpits and interiors for every vehicle. But realism isn't just about pretty graphics. Turn 10 takes realism to new heights, leading the industry with the most advanced physics model, artificial intelligence and damage calculations.

Quote

Play Your Way with All-New Game Modes

"Forza Motorsport 3" is an epic racing game featuring more content and more ways to play than any racing title today. An innovative single-player season mode puts you through a completely personalized racing calendar that includes more than 200 different events, including Circuit, Oval, Drag, Drift and Timed Events. No two calendars are the same; they react to the cars you love and the races you enjoy most. In addition, the online multiplayer mode* gains an all-new game rules editor. This gives players a never-ending variety of ways to play with friends. Whether you're a speedster, dragster, drifter, painter, tuner or just a lover of cars, "Forza Motorsport 3" is the definitive racing game for you.

Full in-game B-roll trailer has been posted to the official FM3 website, and comparing it to the official trailer... yes this trailer is in game.

JUICY IN-GAME TRAILER

I love how they've tweaked the car shaders. I think they match up to GT's now in terms of realistic shinyness ect. And the tracks? OMG, so much more detail. Unlike GT which uses the same grass texture for every track.

Day one purchase.

Oh, and if you're still playing FM2 then check out the Turn 10 blog, they're giving away FM3 branded RS4's and RS8's to drive ingame.

Graphics look nice but they look cartoony while GT5 looks great in a realistic sense.

However, while Sfags are still crying about graphics in October and no news on GT5's actual release date has been announced, I will be playing the game with superior gameplay. GT is like Tekken. Old and fucking dated.

It feels awesome to go into a corner faced with understeer, only to kick the clutch to induce rear slippage and then modulate throttle to power-over for the turn. It's so subtle but the fact that you can ride that edge of traction all the way through while adjusting all the while puts Forza physics into a whole separate category. It's a gameplay mechanic I've really yet to experience in any other racing game on consoles.

Career mode totally revamped. We'll go into more detail on this later. It's radically different.

Also, h3ro, yes, you can map clutch to a controller button. It was like learning to drive stickshift all over again. :lol

I like mapping the clutch to the controller. However, what about cars that don't have a clutch and use paddle shifting instead (which I'm pretty sure uses no clutch? I guess I've never actually heard an affirmative on that).

That rewind feature is going to be very useful for someone who's not so good with racing games like me. Definitely going to try this game out.

I played this years ago when it was called Ferrari F355 in the arcades. And that was 60fps, unlike this 30fps garbage.
