Actually MS can't just 'drop in a controller'

Sony spent some time sidestepping Nintendo patents to come up with their solution

MS did the same

Dropping a controller into Natal would bring it dangerously close to Sony's solution

Sony's solution is the best for developers though - they now have two platforms which work in the same way to develop games for

No one is going to make real games for Natal apart from MS' first party studios

Not to mention using a controller would make Natal a laughing stock since it was supposed to do away with controllers

A $200 device that doesn't do what it's supposed to do would be hilarious though

I don't think you understand how natal works. It basically 3d maps your entire living room with infrared depth sensing cameras. It doesn't need a glowing orb to see that you are holding something in your hands, it can precisely tell exactly where your hands are. They could easily track what you are doing with your hands using the controller they already have right now. If that isn't what you want, they could easily make a wand they could pick up as well.

I understand how Natal works, and it doesn't intrigue me at all for games.

They could release a controller, but I already said that they clearly won't. I want buttons + tactile feedback + motion control, like what the Wii and the PS3 are doing.

I don't want to drive a racing game as a fucking mime. I don't want to map every single FPS function to some kind of waggle maneuver.

Sony's tech is what has been shown at tradeshows for years. I'm glad they are finally going to polish it and put it out there, but it is not a new concept. The stuff in natal is nothing like the technology we have seen before. Here is how natal sees things:

You should read up on how these two systems work, the way you are dismissing the tech behind natal, you clearly don't understand it.

Nothing is a new concept. Microsoft purchased the company developing the tech, and they've been displaying it at tradeshows for a while now. I'm not saying Sony's tech is new, but it's definitely a better solution for gamers.

I understand plenty of how Natal works, and I understand plenty what Microsoft showed on their stage and what they emphasized by a 'controller free' movement. I don't want any part in that.

Natal sounds like a mess tbh, a huge piece of kit needed all to do shitty unprecise software tracking versus a solid hardware engineering solution with sub millimetre accuracy and zero lag. Not really surprising that sony has come up with the best motion device considering its the only dedicated HW company out of all of them.

Although Microsoft has declined to say how long it will take for Natal to make the leap from the laboratory to the living room, it’s clear that the technology has upped the ante as far as next-generation gaming is concerned.

Then you'll have some games that are essentially a hybrid - games that work both with the controller and with Natal. Why is that interesting? Think about a first-person shooter where I'm using the controller but I'm doing facial tracking by just moving around and looking round corners.

Or you could have a hardcore gamer like me playing a game with a controller, while a non-hardcore person sitting next to me enjoys the experience by playing with Natal. I could be having my Halo experience with the controller and the friend next to me, who's not a hardcore gamer, could be throwing grenades or driving the Warthog or doing any number of things with Natal.

We can track up to four players in the same way we track controllers. Each individual player will be able to choose - do I want to bind with a controller, or do I want to bind with my body, or do I want to bind with both?

The same way TrackIR does it on the PC. Scaled motion.

I don't want any motion control. Waste of time as far as gaming goes.

Same tech they showed this year. The cups were brightly coloured and picked up by the Eyetoy.

Yep. Glad to see Sony actually delivering on this tech demo they showed us years ago. Don't know why retard xbots and nfags are crying foul about Sony when they already showed us their concept of controllers being read via Eyetoy instead of IR device.

M$ on the other hand is just copying Sony's Eyetoy.

Again, Sony delivers again on their tech demos. :bow

I think Sony's controller offers more in the way of control for games as we traditionally know them, but Microsofts TECHNOLOGY is dramatically more impressive, and will allow for some new stuff.

People dismissing Natal are being retarded. Sony doesn't have an advantage here. Do you know how easy it would be to add controller tracking to Natal? With all the body tracking they are already doing, they could easily drop in a "glowing orb" controller and use sony's method in conjunction with the controllerless method.

Can we add feedback of any sort? No, its crap.
