The gun would be for defense, only.

On the 15th, some 17 year olds broke into a house a couple of streets over, thought no one was home...but a 40-year old man was, and shot one in the shoulder. They fled and called an ambulance a block away. He was treated and sent to juvenile hall, while the homeowner had no problems.

That's my worry, is someone breaking in and not having anything.

For home security, get a Remington 8-round shotgun from Wal-Mart. Cheap and does the trick. You can also saw it down a little for a better spread . It's not illegal if you do some research on the length of the barrel.

For a more domestic, personal protection weapon, get the spec ops USP from that site someone linked. I believe it comes with a silencer .

You can get a USP with a threaded barrel, but a suppressor requires a separate license, and doesn't really add anything to the home defense situation. I guess it would protect your hearing, as a gun firing in a small room would be insanely loud.

By the way, oce, your thread is making me a lot happier I didn't move to Oakland. I learned my lesson living where I'm at now; household incomes are high here, but the white population is only about 15% in my ZIP code. Where I'm moving, it's 50% white, even though it's only 4 miles away, and the difference is night and day. If you have two adults per household making $75,000 it's a lot better than 12 making a total of $110,000.
