- Tokyo tap water is contaminated with radiation which is double the legal limit and the government banned babies and children from drinking the tap water.

- Kanto region's surviving electric power generation capacity is 25% below the peak market demand in summer, with no quick solutions other than building more conventional power plants. This is because Kanto region's power grid is different from the other regions so they cannot buy power from other power companies. They will have to enforce power usage limit per customer and ban street signs at night.

dude u worried 'bout tap water ?

they are having tha full critical meltdown with neutron beams half life style and shit yO

Tokyo Electric Power Co. said Wednesday it has observed a neutron beam, a kind of radioactive ray, 13 times on the premises of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant after it was crippled by the massive March 11 quake-tsunami disaster.

TEPCO says the beam was only emitted a tiny amount of radiation that isn't considered dangerous.

naturally.

nothing exciting at all happening there.

Because not a single person will be hurt because of this.

I'm the actual, logical scientific one here, actually. You guys are just trying your usual fail fearmongering like you did over BP spill.

You wish it was bad, but it just isn't.

Even scientists on the liberal media news have said, this worry over the radioactivity is a lot worse than the actual radioactivity (which is typically incredibly low levels).

Today's Japan radiation update

- Three workers at Fukushima reactor #3 got radiation burned. They stepped into 30 cm water in the basement of reactor building and that was enough to give them a horrible radiation burn on their feet and were taken to hospitals.

- Tokyo store shelves are cleaned of water and food after the tap water radiation report. It has gotten so bad that Japanese government is asking for water and food shipment from Korea, something that they rejected before.

- Russian cargo ship is seized at the Russian port after radiation detection. The ship sailed near Fukushima power plants.

- Hong Kong banned all food import from Japan.

- Sales of sushi at sushi parlors across Japan are taking a nosedive due to radiation fears.

- Radiation detected on vegetable grown in Tokyo. What's troubling is that this was vegetable grown in lab, not outdoor.

Not my bare foot no but which idiot would do that.

Those three were workers from Tokyo Electric's subcontractors, not Tokyo Electric employees.

While the media makes big buzz about those 50 Kamikaze Tokyo Electric employees at the site, what the media ignores is 500 workers from Tokyo Electric's subcontractors also at site, poorly protected and underpaid(These workers are not getting extra-pay, other than normal regular wage) and risking their lives at the melt-down site.

My point still stands. It was Xaro emissions which isn't exactly hard to protect against. Obviously this is just poor planning.

The water founded at the turbine room of reactors have 10000 times the radiation of normal cooling water(which is radioactive BTW). This water is reportedly being leaked into the sea and underground water. 20 miles from the reactors, detected radiation level is 6 times the level of what equivalent distance at Chernobyl was detected.

Fukushima is turning into a nuclear wasteland, where residents would be forbidden to return for a generation.

Radioactivity rises in seawater near Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant

By Michael Alison Chandler, Saturday, March 26, 10:28 AM
TOKYO — Radioactivity levels soared in the seawater outside the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, safety officials reported Saturday, igniting fresh concerns about the spread of highly radioactive material and the risks involved in completing an already dangerous job.

Samples taken 360 yards offshore from the plant Friday showed radioactive iodine levels 1,250 times the legal safety limit. Earlier in the week, the levels of iodine-131 in the water had been closer to 100 times the limit.

Radiation doses spread unequally / Experts say govt should give more detail in designating evacuation zones

...

The Yomiuri Shimbun calculated radiation doses based on data from the Fukushima prefectural government. These calculations were made under the premise a person was outdoors continually from March 14 to 4 p.m. March 24.

The estimates showed a person would have absorbed 620 microsieverts of radiation in Minami-Soma, about 24 kilometers from the nuclear plant, over that period. But the number reached 4,000 microsieverts in Iitatemura, about 40 kilometers northwest of the troubled plant.

Four thousand microsieverts far exceeds the 1,500 microsieverts an average person in Japan is exposed to naturally in a normal year.

Stricken Fukushima plant appeals to France for help

The operator of the nuclear reactors at Fukushima in Japan has asked France for help in tackling the crisis at the plant. France's Industry Minister Eric Besson said he was pleased that Tokyo Electric Power, Tepco, had asked for assistance with the 'extremely critical' situation at Fukushima.

Besson said three groups would be involved in providing assistance - French energy giant, EDF, nuclear group Areva and the atomic agency commission.

EDF, which manages France's 58 nuclear reactors, announced on 18 March that the three groups were set to send Japan 130 tonnes of specialised equipment including robots able to intervene in the case of a nuclear accident. But a spokesman for Besson said Tepco's latest request is a separate issue.

The head of France's nuclear safety agency ASN. says that airborne nulcear contamination has spread well beyond the 30 kilometre exclusion zone around the Fukushima plant.

Andre-Claude Lacoste told journalists that it would not be surprising to find some contamination well beyond a radius of 100 metres.

Last week, the Japanese government asked people still living between 20 and 30 kilometres from the plant to leave voluntarily.

Workers trying to restore systems to cool overheating fuel rods are trying to work around puddles of dangerously radioactive water discovered inside reactor number two. Experts fear that highly-contaminated water could be seeping into the soil or nearby sea.

Lacoste added that only the restoration of the plant's cooling systems and a steady supply of fresh water will likely stabilise the reactors.
