The Verge reports that Best Buy has been surveying some of its customers on proposed products and services, with the company including a description of a 42-inch "Apple HDTV" priced at $1499. The listing is undoubtedly simply a concept dreamed up by Best Buy to help gauge interest in such an offering, but provides an interesting perspective on what the major electronics retailer might be hoping for and what it thinks its customers would want in an Apple television set.

The promotional text makes no mention of Siri or voice control, which has been rumored to be one of the device's key revolutionary features following Steve Jobs' revelation that he had "finally cracked" how to reshape the way people interact with their television sets.

$1500 for a 42"? it should set new sales records.

Why would anyone buy this when Apple TV is $99 and attaches to any TV set? It would have to have a killer feature.

That said, if they can do anything along the lines of the NBC.com Super Bowl broadcast it will change the TV world. Really really impressed there.

Good news for iFags, if it unifies the ipad/iphone/imac content into a living room hub. Would be cool to seamlessly stream itunes/icloud content from different devices onto your tv without third party fixes...but as an iphone only owner I'm not too interested. I can see MS pushing hard in this direction next gen too, with WP8, tablet, 720, pc integration.

Is it a 42in multi-touch screen? Unlikely.

Not advocating for this product but poors can just buy a Roku device and play angry birds on their wal-mart big screens already.

While iShit usually sells to suckers there may be a cut-off point. I would hope this is it.

Plex already does this for a couple bucks.

If they plan on using a subscription they will have to offer something for sports or it won't be a complete ecosystem.


If only the leagues were spending time on a relevant online broadcast system instead of shutting down websites they'd be taking in the dough.

NBC is ahead of the game in this area, if they offer football in last nights format on a device or smart TV it will change the game.
